Text Box: support and guidance from trained D/SAOC staff member who are on call and accessible to the Advocate to answer questions and assist the Advocate as needed.

Advocates also attend weekly meetings to discuss calls, interact with other Advocates and at times receive additional training during these meetings.

D/SAOC is tentatively planning an Advocate training class in February. The training is free to the public and anyone can attend. Anyone interested in attending, please contact D/SAOC at (515) 955-2273 for more details.

We are also in need of volunteers for They Key On Central. We are looking for individuals that can donate one or two days a week on a consistent and monthly basis to help at the store.

This may include sorting donations, assisting customers, opening or closing the store, operating the cash registers and completing donation slips. We are also looking are looking for help picking up donated furniture from donors and Text Box: delivering the furniture to the store or possibly clients.

As with any other home, the shelter also needs maintenance inside and out, whether it be changing a light bulb, fixing a leaky faucet, painting or yard work. In short, this is home to many people and just like your home, things come up that need attention or with preventive maintenance costly repairs and equipment issues can be avoided. If you’re handy with tools, we encourage you to grab your tool belt and join the team!

We also have other fun and rewarding opportunities. Exercise your creativity and computer skills in an administrative capacity by typing, data entry, filing, mailing, labeling, printing, running errands and folding and creating media material, and other projects as needed.

For those of you who love children, we are also looking for individuals to help with child care and assisting with group.

As mentioned previously, D/SAOC is a home, a safe home and the things that we need are things that you do everyday in your own home.
