SEXUAL ASSAULT FACTS:
Sexual assault is the fastest growing violent crime in America, yet is the least reported. Only 10 to 20 percent of victims report their assault.
Immediate medical care is essential. There is no charge for a sexual assault exam. Immediate reports to local law enforcement may help give you peace of mind. It is often empowering to acknowledge that what happened to you was wrong by reporting it.

IOWA LAW STATES
 Sexual assault may include but is not limited to: any unwanted sexual contact achieved by force, threat of force, trickery, coercion, or bribery;
AND/OR
Any sexual contact done while the victim/survivor is under the influence of a drug inducing sleep or is other wise in a state of unconsciousness.

WHY?
 Wondering why the assault happened to you is very normal. It is a very difficult question to answer because no one really knows why except the rapist. BUT what is known, is that you did not do anything to prompt the assault. Sexual assault is not about sex. It is prompted by an urge to control another human being in the most personal way.

 Know in your heart that you are not to blame. You did not cause the assault to happen. If you could have avoided it, you would have. Place the blame for the assault where it belongs – with the rapist.

SEEKING HELP
 Many victims/survivors are not ready to make a decision about pursuing further criminal or civil action immediately following an assault. By seeking a medical exam, you ensure that evidence will be preserved and this will help to maximize your choices in the future. An advocate from the Domestic/Sexual Assault Outreach Center can provide support and help connect you to counseling. Call us at 515-573-8000 or 888-356-2006 toll-free for free and confidential help.
