Child Advocates

What is a Play Advocate?

Trained play advocates guide the child in “play.” This enables the advocate to identify the child’s problem areas.

Structured play with an advocate allows children to communicate naturally. Children sometimes cannot express their feelings and thoughts in words, but can effectively communicate their emotions through play.

Structured play creates a feeling of safety and permissiveness allowing the child to explore and express him or herself. It also helps the child to understand his or her feelings. The child will learn how to identify his or her feelings and healthy ways of dealing with them.
